The Town of Boonton was established in 1829 as a result of the construction of the
Morris Canal and the development of the New Jersey Iron Company. Covering a geographic area of 2.45 square miles, Boonton is a well-established community with older homes, abundant park lands, and convenient access to the NY metropolitan area. Boonton is located in northeastern Morris County, about 25 miles west of New York City and 7 miles north of
Morristown. Main Street in Boonton has lots of small shops and restaurants. There are two major sections of residential housing in Boonton. Neighborhoods on the west side of Route 287 are considered to be in The Hill section and neighborhoods on the east side of Route 287 are considered to be in The Flats. Boonton is filled with pre world war homes including colonials, victorians, and multi-family dwellings. There is also a mixture of 1900s ranch, cape, bi-level, and split levels as well as newer colonial replacement homes sprinkled across the community.

Boonton Commute
The Town of Boonton is easily accessible to Routes 287 and 80. The Boonton Train Station (Montclair-Boonton Line) provides service via
New Jersey Transit to the Hoboken Terminal and Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan.
Lakeland Bus also provides service to the Port Authority in New York City for a quick Midtown commute.
Boonton Borough Schools
The
Boonton Public Schools serve students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are School Street School (K-3), John Hill School (4-6), Boonton Middle School (7 & 8) and Boonton High School (9-12).
Boonton Recreation
The Town of Boonton offers Sports and Recreational activities for residents of all ages, which include day trips to Atlantic City and Youth Sports. The parks that are located in Boonton are Kanouse Pocket Park, Grace Lord Park, Pepe Field, and Mayor's Park. There are some great hiking trails located close to Boonton, which include the Tourne, Pyramid Mountain, and Turkey Mountain.
