East Hanover has a total area of 8.2 square miles and it is situated roughly 25 miles west of New York City. East Hanover is defined by the joining of two rivers, the Whippany River to the north and west and the Passaic River to the north and east. The headquarters of the Nabisco, which is owned by Kraft Foods, and the pharmaceutical company, Novartis, are located in East Hanover.
