Montville Township covers 19.1 square miles and has approximately 7,500 housing units. Montville is easily accessible to U.S. Routes 80 and 287 offering a quick commute to Manhattan and employment centers in Northern New Jersey. Montville is filled with suburban neighborhoods and still retains a rural country atmosphere. Two sections of Montville include: Towaco and Pine Brook. Towaco, which has a train station and bus service to NYC, is a small village located on the Township's northern end. Although there are still historic homes and old farm houses from the 1800s sprinkled across Montville Township, most of the homes and neighborhoods were constructed beginning in the 1960s. Ranch, bi-level, split level and colonial homes are all common across the Township. Montville is known for its new construction during the 1990s and 2000s of large mini-estate and luxury homes. Lake Valahalla is a wonderful community in Montville that surrounds a serene 90 acre lake with forest and mountain views. The New York City commute is made easy to Penn Station from the Towaco Train Station in Montville. Bus service to Port Authority in NYC is available in Towaco and Pine Brook along Route 46.

Montville Township offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for residents of all ages from traditional sports to craft classes. Additionally, there are numerous recreational facilities, which are available for use by residents. There is a dog park located off Changebridge Road in Pine Brook. Residents and non-residents are able to enjoy this park for a nominal fee.

The Montville Township School District includes five K-5 grade elementary schools — Cedar Hill, Hilldale, Valley View, William Mason, and Woodmont. Robert R. Lazar Middle School serves students in public school for grades 6-8 and Montville High School serves grades 9–12.
